When it comes to Los Angeles, the first thing on everyone’s mind is Hollywood! Hollywood is known for everything from glamour to celebrities, but it is best known for movies. Guests who will be staying in hotels near Beverly Hills this June can watch new films and get an inside look at Hollywood and the film industry at the 19th annual LA Film Fest!
LA Film Fest is a ten day event that will take place from June 13-23, 2013. It will be held at various locations within LA Live, right in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. So what is LA Film Fest all about? It is sponsored by Film Independent, which is a non-profit arts organization. Film Independent strives to promote the film industry and assist filmmakers by helping with their films and building their audience. They are not only interested in independent films, but wish to promote the very best of all film. This means you will also be able to view new films by famous and award winning filmmakers.
Over 200 films will be shown throughout the course of the festival. Opening night will kick-off with the premiere of Academy Award winning director Pedro Almódovar’s brand new movie I’m So Excited. In addition to opening and closing night events, there will be two red carpet galas featuring movies from independent filmmaker Ryan Coogler and Cannes Best Director winner Nicolas Winding Refn. The festival will feature 35 North American, World, and U.S. premieres as well as free community films that anyone can attend.
There will be no shortage of celebrities at the festival. Aside from attending screenings, they will also be hosting special workshops and conversations. If you are into comedy, take a class with Maya Rudolph, one of the stars of the hilarious comedy Bridesmaids. She will explain tips and tricks she has learned throughout her career as well as recap some of her favorite comedy scenes. You will also be able to hear from people who work behind the scenes such as editors and costume designers during special panel sessions.
